We believe homes should work as hard as they look good

Founded on the principle that exceptional interior design isn't about following trends, but understanding people.

Our design team at work

How we started

Eight years ago, our founder completed a renovation that taught her everything traditional interior design gets wrong. The designer had created a beautiful space that looked magazine-perfect but didn't account for how the family actually lived.

Furniture blocked natural pathways. Storage looked elegant but held nothing practical. The kitchen was stunning but frustrating to cook in.

That experience sparked a question: what if interior design started with behavior instead of aesthetics?

velvet-portal was born from that insight. We observe how you move through your space, what frustrates you, what brings you joy. Only then do we design.

The result? Interiors that feel intuitive because they're built around your life, not someone else's vision of how you should live.

Detailed craftsmanship

What guides our work

Function shapes form

Beauty without usability is just decoration. We design spaces that work first, then make them beautiful.

Honest communication

If something won't work, we'll tell you. If there's a better way, we'll show you. No jargon, no upselling.

Sustainable choices

We source materials that last, work with suppliers who care, and design for longevity over trends.

Respect for heritage

Period properties deserve sympathetic treatment. We modernize thoughtfully, preserving character while improving livability.

Our approach in practice

We listen more than we talk

Initial consultations focus on understanding your routines, frustrations, and aspirations. We ask about mornings and evenings, work and relaxation, solitude and gathering.

These insights inform every decision that follows.

Design planning process

We design with restraint

Not every surface needs a statement. We create visual focal points deliberately, allowing other elements to recede.

This restraint gives spaces room to breathe and allows your personal items to shine.

We build to last

Cheap materials save money today but cost more tomorrow. We specify quality that endures: hardwood over laminate, natural stone over porcelain, solid over veneered.

Your investment should appreciate, not depreciate.
